About this course
A Udemy course by Bernie Raffe AMPA, a UK portrait and former wedding photographer, sharing the tips, posing and planning ideas he used for wedding photos. It suits photographers asked to shoot a friend's wedding, those with a few weddings behind them who want more confidence and their own style, and experienced wedding photographers looking for creative ideas. It is not for complete beginners: you need a DSLR or mirrorless camera and a reasonable understanding of it. The course has 6 sections and 42 lectures (2 hours 4 minutes), was last updated in May 2016 and is taught in English.
Rather than live shoots, it is built around a large number of the instructor's own wedding images, shown with their camera settings while he explains how he got each shot. The day is covered in chronological order.
The bride getting ready section covers the dress and shoes, make-up close-ups, the dress being done up, small details, reportage shots through a doorway, parents seeing the bride for the first time, window-light portraits and the bride on the stairs. The ceremony section covers arrivals, ring photos before the ceremony, the processional and recessional, the groom's first sight of the bride, ceremony moments such as the exchange of rings and the kiss, and the signing of the register.
After the ceremony come the church doorway, hugs and kisses, a method for confetti shots, formal bride photos, relaxed groom and best man photos and the couple with their car or carriage. The reception section covers family groups, groomsmen and bridesmaids, the couple on their own, the cake, speeches and lighting the first dance with flash without overlighting it. Each section has a PDF of image thumbnails to keep as reminders.
Pricing: Paid Udemy course: list price US$39.99 at research time (Udemy discounts it often). Lifetime access and a certificate of completion are included.
